remember how i said i was sooo tired last night. remember how i said that i was off to take a nap? i lied. - i was never much of a napper. my body doesn’t know how. instead, i popped in a new dvd rental, “craft in america”- a pbs production.

i watched two of three episodes: episode 1: memory, episode 2: landscape.

(some artists included in the episode 1 are tom joyce, jan yager, sam maloof, garry knox bennett)

i especially like episode one where different artists spoke about why they craft. each artist featured spoke with such joy for the history of the craft and reverence towards the material. (craft fields in this episode included basketweaving, woodworking, and blacksmithing.) i can’t wait to watch the last episode. this is a MUST SEE.

psst. available via netflix and probably your local library-if not, ask for it!

pictured below: sam maloof, the first craftsman to receive the MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” in 1985. my new hero for his soft-spoken ways, lifetime devotion to his craft, and the sweetness with which he recounts the memories of his wife.
