kylie of mizu designs sent in this photo of an old wardrobe that she is now using as a storage unit for her printmaking supplies. awesome way to utilize old furniture.

juliet, of the broken plate tells me, “I love, love, love going to the Dollar Store for organizational bins. You never know what you will find”. (dollar store find: bottom right corner bins). also pictured are magnetic spice tins (which i know are also great for jewelry findings and beads) and wooden cd holders from ikea

eliza of 12linden says, “I’ve found great decorative boxes to store my sandpaper, magazine clippings, markers, and designs. Check it out. Gone are the tupperware containers. Finally, something pretty to display.” all this for under $30 bucks. to which we say: YEAH! sources: target and ikea

comments from patrice of TakeWrning,
“A trip to Ikea blessed me with a million storage containers, but I found that the only way I actually use them is if they are labeled, so now everything has a sticker on it.”
“I used sheer curtains to cover all the small shelves I hung, so in the chaos that is crafting, it can easily be hidden. Replaced the closet door with a soft fabric to soften the room and allow for when I have a few extra boxes of fabric and the door just won’t close…”
“this dish drainer is one of my most used items. It folds up nicely against the wall when not in use, but when it’s heavy production time, it folds down nicely to store boxes on the shelf and I use hooks on the shelf slats to hang completed necklaces, etc before photographing.”
patrice, i LOVE the dish drainer idea! fold up storage. . . oooh.

can you tell that rachel from red prairie press likes everything in a row? soooo neat and tidy! and how many of us out there covet a set of paper drawers? (is that what these drawers are specifically made for, rachel?)

love this drawer unit i got from ikea. it totally decluttered my workbench and magnetic tool strip . (bonus: on casters!). i’ve used misc. boxes as dividers in each drawer. one of the best christmas presents i received this year was the p-touch label maker (thank you little sis!). i haven’t yet gotten around to labeling everything yet, but watch out! i find that i’m using my storage units appropriately and daily now that they are labeled. . . strange. . .
i do believe that the consensus is this- ikea, target, and dollar stores are our favorite places to find storage solutions. the container store is one i love to browse as well. here’s another one just for fun. as crafters, it seems we also have a keen sense of repurposing objects. for example, patrice’s dish drainer idea and kylie’s wardrobe turned printmaking supply holder. also useful- spice tins and ice cube trays for beads & findings, magnetic strips for tools (not just knives), curtains in place of closet doors to accommodate bulge (and hide mess). and finally, my new mantra, if you label it, you will use it!
and now, time to announce the winner of the $40 gift card: Steve has pulled a name out of a hat. and the winner is ELIZA from 12linden! congrats eliza!
