| Due to the success of the AltCraft (formerly New Wave) section in Baltimore, the American Craft Council is now accepting applications for the San Francisco show at Fort Mason Center, August 15-17, 2008. Ten makers will be juried into this bustling section, which celebrates the populist, experimental and youthful vitality of the renewed handmade movement. Artists who have never exhibited at an American Craft show may apply.
Located on the San Francisco waterfront between Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge, this show serves a well-established audience of Bay Area craft enthusiasts, including a growing demographic of younger craft admirers. The average booth is valued at $1,000 but as part of the Council’s commitment to indie crafters, the cost of participation is just $300, which includes a 10-ft table in a shared loft space. Plus, there’s no application fee! The deadline is May 23. Please submit:
Send submissions and inquiries to Erika at ebrown@craftcouncil.org. Finalists will be announced in June. The American Craft Council |

That’s awesome! See, all that hoo ha did a little something
and by “hoo ha” I am NOT insinuating that the conversation is meaningless…it is utterly necessary and exciting as well. Just so everyone knows
veddy interesting, indeed . . .
i dug up the e-mail that i received for the baltimore show for reference:
“The Council’s Baltimore show is an incredible opportunity for everyone to see how much we all have in common, and how much we can learn from each other.”- Reverend Callie Janoff, The Church of Craft
The American Craft Council is opening the doors of its most prestigious show – The American Craft Show in Baltimore – to the new wave craft crowd. 300 crafters (including you!) are invited to apply but only 40 will be selected to participate at the largest indoor craft show in the country. (Jurors will include editors of AMERICAN CRAFT magazine and leaders of the indie craft community.)
Every year more than 850 artists present their work at The American Craft Show in Baltimore, attracting a crowd of 25,000 craft enthusiasts. The average booth is valued at $1500 but as part of the Council’s commitment to emerging crafters, the cost of participation for these lucky 40 is just $300 each. Plus, there’s no application fee!

“We realize the initial investment of participating in such a show is difficult for emerging artists, that’s why we’re designing a special area on the show floor for 40 talented crafters,” said Carmine Branagan, executive director of the American Craft Council. “This is an amazing opportunity for any craft artist who’s striving to make a career in craft.”
As a selected applicant, you have until Monday, October 29 to submit:
· (3) low-res images of work to baltimore@craftcouncil.org.
· A brief description of your work (materials, dimensions, special techniques)
· Your contact information (mail and e-mail addresses).
The subject of the email should be: I want to get rad in Baltimore!
Finalists will be announced in November.
Good luck!
