puppy in the white house

November 5th, 2008 by annie

perhaps the obamas will consider a pit bull rescue puppy for the white house?  that would rock my world.

here is dottie in spring 2007

and here she is in summer 2008 (about sixty pounds later)

a little bit of faith restored

this post is dedicated to my little sister.

here is a picture of us on the very day that she registered to vote.  how remarkable- just yesterday, she participated in her very first election as a first generation asian american female florida voter- how ’bout them apples?

an apolitical post

November 4th, 2008 by annie

on this day, i took a few minutes for a stroll in the garden. i just wanted to stop for a moment to breathe, smile and reflect on the strength that we have as individuals to effect change in our lives.

have a wonderful, peaceful day!

weekend recap

November 2nd, 2008 by annie

oh what a relaxing weekend!

i find myself in the studio on this sunday afternoon- but that’s ok- i’m really looking forward to putting on some tunes and busting out a few pieces today. i’m just ITCHING to get started on new work! (but this means i must complete everything on my “to send out” list first)

where did this energy come from? maybe it’s the extra hour of sleep i got last night or the great yoga class i take every sunday? or maybe it’s because i just rewatched “the science of sleep“, from one of my favorites, michel gondry (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind). (have you seen the “the work of michel gondry“-so good as well) his creations, childlike imagination and earnest are such an inspiration to me.

before i popped in the movie last night, i baked my first batch of vegan cupcakes. here is one that i took to the studio with me today- a treat for later :)

gingerbread cupcakes with lemony frosting recipe right here

i went a little crazy with the frosting for half of the batch, so i decided to tone it down with just a dallop of frosting each for the remaining half.

happy halloween!

i feel a lot of pressure to make my own costume every year. but i’ll be honest- i don’t have the best sewing skills. sewing always sends me into a frustrated frenzy. at the moment, fabric just isn’t a material i understand. in fact, i got this book last year for the holidays and have YET to make a “simple” project from it.

i didn’t want to go the cardboard costume route either- steve was a computer made of cardboard one year and it’s just way too hard to navigate a crowd in an outfit like that. all of this led me to this costume on ebay. i’m told it’s an authentic vintage cheerleading uniform! (that once belonged to a katherine according the monograming on the lapel). and just for kicks, i also got “professional” pom poms too. one zombie cheerleader coming right up!

Lizzy’s Guest Blog

Hi!

So I didn’t post on Friday because I was in San Antonio and had to pay $10 a day for internet, which I find a little ridiculous.  So I didn’t. Sorry my post is late!

Last week, I had a project due.

 102708.jpg

It’s not supposed to be blue.  It’s supposed to be red.  Or brown.  Maybe even yellow.  But not blue.  Luckily my professors really awesome and lets us resubmit work before the end of the semester, so I need to fix that.  Otherwise I’m happy with the piece.

On Wednesday morning, I left for San Antonio for the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference.  I went there with some really good friends and we had a lot of fun and ate tons of good Tex-Mex.  It’s so pretty there!  I had never been to Texas.  We stayed almost entirely on the Riverwalk, which I know, full of tourists, but it was just so pretty and green!  I never expected quite so many flowers, but they were everywhere.

   I miss it already!

i also enjoyed a bit of thrift shopping on sunday afternoon. here is a look at just some of my treasures. i just love the knitting books i found. one was dated 1937-wow. i believe i will be trying my hand at one of these sweaters for steve. perhaps he will even model it for me like the dashing fellow below.

happy friday!

October 24th, 2008 by annie

well, i have about a bajillion errands to run before i can officially begin my weekend- so i’m going to make this quick!

i wasn’t having the best of days yesterday, so to unwind, i carved this pumpkin.  it worked!  it was a great stress reliever.  i highly recommend it.  ok.  so i may have combined pumpkin carving with beer and fried food. . .  i highly recommend that too.  i used a template from martha, of course.  if i could change one thing about the carving, i would make the skull even bigger, but other than that, i’m pretty pleased with the result.

i lugged this baby from the house to the studio (seatbelted in the backseat of the car) just to take a picture of it!
