from my sweetie

June 12th, 2008 by annie

this weekend steve surprised me with the book learning to love you more - he knows i’m a big fan of miranda july, one of the authors. thank you, steve!

if you liked the one-a-day challenge and one-a-week challenge, i bet you’ll also like learning to love you more. from the official website:

Learning to Love You More is both a web site and series of non-web presentations comprised of work made by the general public in response to assignments given by artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher. Yuri Ono designs and manages the web site.
Participants accept an assignment, complete it by following the simple but specific instructions, send in the required report (photograph, text, video, etc), and see their work posted on-line. Like a recipe, meditation practice, or familiar song, the prescriptive nature of these assignments is intended to guide people towards their own experience.
Since Learning To Love You More is also an ever-changing series of exhibitions, screenings and radio broadcasts presented all over the world, participant’s documentation is also their submission for possible inclusion in one of these presentations. Past presentations have taken place at venues that include The Whitney Museum in NYC, Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, Aurora Picture Show in Houston, TX, The Seattle Art Museum in Seattle, WA, the Wattis Institute in San Francisco CA, among others.
Since LTLYM inception in 2002 over 5000 people have participated in the project

some of my favorite assignments include #55. photograph a significant outfit, #63. make an educational public plaque, #30. take a picture of strangers holding hands

weekend recap

June 9th, 2008 by annie

i spent this weekend sweating. temperatures soared to the mid and high nineties and according to the weather channel “felt like” in the 100s. ouch! it was much too hot to come out to the studio to work, so instead i worked on a baby blanket and a few good reads. here’s hoping that it cools down soon!

a baby blanket in a simple basket weave pattern. it will have ruffle edges when i’m all done. i traded  jewelry for this yarn on ravelry- how cool is that?!

focus

June 5th, 2008 by annie

this morning the two dogs, steve and i took a little hike in robert e. lee park- only minutes away from our studio. it makes me realize that every morning should begin with a jaunt along the water and in the woods.

find this photo here

during my hike, i came to a few decisions:

- it’s time to focus on my two wholesale shows coming up this august. i must refrain from making new designs every month but, instead, attend to pulling together a coherent collection for the shows.

this will be hard for me as i like to just make whatever comes to mind whenever it comes to mind!

- i will not be participating in the renegade craft fair, brooklyn this summer. i realized that i completely overbooked myself and had to let this one go. i will still be doing the local shows- pile of craft, crafty bastards, and artscape. none of these require traveling long distances, overnight stays, or a rental car.

- i love my job

a little bit about me- i would put jewelry making on the back burner to be a back-up dancer.  yes.  it’s true.
i watched madonna’s confessions on a dance floor tour dvd last night and WOW!  that desire to shake it came back again!  have you seen this two hour dvd?  the costumes, theatrics, and dancing are deliciously over the top: madonna comes out on a bejeweled crucifix, there are roller skaters, whips, parkour, sparkly unitards, a light-up cape and MUCH more.

there i said it.  now you know- back to the jeweler’s bench i go :)

welcome june!

June 2nd, 2008 by annie

so sadly, this is the only photo i took all weekend at the art star craft bazaar!

 2008_6_2_1.jpg

this was the view from my tent on saturday.   needless to say, i packed up after hearing of a tornado watch!  i have a confession though-  i was secretly glad for the rainy weather as i got to enjoy my very favorite dish at my very favorite place to eat in philadelphia:  vietnam restaurant.  yummmmyy

luckily, sunday turned out to be sunny and bright!   i had a wonderful time hanging out with all my jewelry gal pals and charm city craft mafia peeps.  though i must say- i’m SO GLAD that my next show will be indoors!  phew!
