peace

April 30th, 2008 by annie

thank you for all the comments on my last post.  the day certainly did brighten up and i feel so warm and fuzzy inside to know that you all are out there listening to me on the good days and the bad.  thank you so much!

now, doesn’t this look like exactly the kind of place for recuperation and creative therapy?

2008_4_30_1.jpg

i wish i could attend the classes held at squam art workshops in september.  it looks like it will be a fantastic time!  can you imagine three days in central new hampshire participating in classes where you can make a primitive doll body and keepsake book?  one of my favorite class descriptions:

Spontaneous Art
Misty Mawn

This class is for anyone that wants to just let go and forget about any expectations they have been carrying around about their artwork. Spend the whole day with me being impulsive, as we plunge right into that blank paper and let our creative juices splash all around. This is a class to let loose and explore the unexpected. We will be painting, drawing, coloring in and outside the lines, collaging, stamping, and whatever else the day brings. For all levels.

when it rains . .

April 29th, 2008 by annie

back to the studio today after a loonnngg sunday in brooklyn and a day of recovery yesterday.

the craftacular wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.  i suppose i’m clinging on too much to the memory of that very first holiday craftacular when i met and got a photo with debbie stoller, drank free beer provided by brooklyn brewery for an hour or two, and danced the night away in my booth.  while the craftacular didn’t measure up to that memory, i loved the 90’s music played throughout the night. remember p.m. dawn, arrested development, and susan vegas’ tom’s diner?  i also had a blast playing “name that year” with the girlie pants crew.  and of course- my favorite part of every show- seeing all our wonderful vendor friends from far and wide that i only get to see at shows!

did i mention that it’s been raining cats and dogs for days, my car refuses to start, and that my cell phone was stolen?  yes it’s true.  well, time to get to the studio and face the day!

i’ll be back this week with more on

the one a week challenge

new beads

and perhaps some new designs!

thanks for sticking with me guys!

hello all!  i hope you had a nice relaxing weekend.

i’m in the full swing of things here in the studio so i’ll be sitting out for this week’s one-a-week challenge.  i know kait is pressing on, so  be sure to see what she is up to over at tether.  and of course, if you are working on a one-a-week challenge of your own, swing me an e-mail and let me know!  i am a nosy one, indeed.

old school

April 18th, 2008 by annie

i realized today that i am very very tired. the addition of wholesale shows, prepping like crazy for the first retail show of the season, keeping up with e-mails, the one-a-week challenge and other to-dos have finally caught up with me.

after finishing some production work and putting part of my new booth together this morning, i decided that i just don’t have enough time to properly finish the second half of the one-a-week challenge before the deadline. i’m so happy with the ring that i want to give it as beautiful of a home as i can. i’ve buried the ring in a temporary spot for now as i contemplate some designs. . .

thank you SO MUCH kait! can you come up with the challenges from now on??! i absolutely loved this challenge!! i didn’t know how much i missed working on conceptual projects until this week. reminiscing, i dug up one of my favorite pieces from my school days (when i took myself WAY too seriously!). it’s been hidden away for years now because it needs a repair: a broken hinge.

2008_4_14_2.jpg

i think now is the perfect time to fix it.

the challenge

this bulb is dormant until next year. to me, it acts as a symbol of opportunity, potential, and growth. the second part of the challenge i will complete tomorrow. as a bonus, i won’t be creating another piece of jewelry, but a home for the bulb to live. perhaps, if we are lucky, she will awaken next april and i will be able to wear a flower on my pinky for a week or two. quickly, i must put her back under some earth! more photos to come shortly. thank you for following me this week!

Now Accepting
AltCraft Artist
Applications
for the American Craft Council Show
in San Francisco

August 15-17, 2008

“I am excited to see the American Craft Council reaching out to our creative community and providing us with an affordable opportunity to participate in their established craft show. I see this as a positive step, opening the dialogue between generations and a chance to expose a new audience to our way of thinking.” - Faythe Levine, Director and Co-Author of Handmade Nation
Due to the success of the AltCraft (formerly New Wave) section in Baltimore, the American Craft Council is now accepting applications for the San Francisco show at Fort Mason Center, August 15-17, 2008. Ten makers will be juried into this bustling section, which celebrates the populist, experimental and youthful vitality of the renewed handmade movement. Artists who have never exhibited at an American Craft show may apply.

Located on the San Francisco waterfront between Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge, this show serves a well-established audience of Bay Area craft enthusiasts, including a growing demographic of younger craft admirers. The average booth is valued at $1,000 but as part of the Council’s commitment to indie crafters, the cost of participation is just $300, which includes a 10-ft table in a shared loft space. Plus, there’s no application fee!

The deadline is May 23. Please submit:

  • (3) low-resolution images of your work
  • A brief description of your work (materials, dimensions, techniques)
  • Your contact information (mailing and email addresses)

Send submissions and inquiries to Erika at ebrown@craftcouncil.org.
The subject line should be: San Fran AltCraft Application

Finalists will be announced in June.
